Walk Appeal

The discussion of Walk Appeal attempts to refine what we know about how far people will walk, and why. Simply put, New Urbanists design has followed the century-old metric of the five-minute walk, which is a quarter-mile at an easy pace. But it's clear that people walk much further in some places and much less in others. This BlogOff examines the reasons why. Walk Appeal was originally called Pedestrian Propulsion, but was re-coined Walk Appeal by Rob Steuteville and L.J. Aurbach during a lengthy listserv discussion of the idea in April 2012.
